Best Gifts for Pickleball Players Over 50 (2026 Holiday Guide)

Honest holiday gift ideas for pickleball players over 50: paddles, grips, court shoes, recovery gear and stocking stuffers, plus Christmas shipping deadlines.

By Cole Stegman, founder · · 5 min read

If someone on your list plays pickleball four mornings a week, you already know what they want: more mornings. The best gifts for players over 50 help them show up, play well, and feel ready to do it again tomorrow.

This guide is honest. Most of it is not our product. We make one thing, a plant-based balm, and we will tell you where it fits. The rest is what players actually ask for.

Short on time? Our holiday gift shop has every Rematch gift sorted by price and by who you are shopping for, with this year's shipping deadlines.

Quick picks by budget

  • Under $25: overgrips, outdoor balls, a visor or headband, a towel clip, a 1 oz travel balm.
  • Under $50: a quality insulated water bottle, a paddle edge guard and cover, a compression sleeve, a balm set for home and the bag.
  • Under $100: a court bag, a massage ball and roller set, a pro shop gift card, a lesson or clinic.
  • Big gifts: a paddle (only if you know their specs), court shoes fitted in person, a camp or a weekend tournament entry.

Gear they will use every week

Overgrips

Overgrips wear out fast and nobody likes buying them. A multi-pack in a neutral color is the most useful small gift in pickleball. Ask what grip size they use, or pick a standard overgrip that works on most paddles.

Balls for the right surface

Outdoor balls are harder and have smaller holes; indoor balls are softer. If they play outside, a bucket of outdoor balls is a gift they will use up by spring.

A paddle, but carefully

Paddles are personal. Weight, grip size, core thickness and face material all change how a paddle feels, and players over 50 often have strong preferences that protect their elbow and shoulder. Unless they have told you the exact model, consider a pro shop gift card or a demo day instead. An edge guard, a paddle cover, or a lead tape kit are safer paddle-adjacent gifts.

Court shoes

Running shoes are built for forward motion. Court shoes are built for side-to-side movement and give more lateral support, which matters a lot on a hard court. Shoe fit is personal too, so a gift card to a store that fits them in person beats a surprise box.

A good court bag

A bag with a separate shoe compartment, a fence hook and a side pocket for a water bottle makes every session a little easier. Look for one that holds two paddles if they bring a spare.

Recovery gifts for the morning after

After 50, recovery gets more attention than it used to. Our guide on how to recover after pickleball over 50 covers the routine. These gifts make it easier:

  • A massage ball and foam roller. Small, inexpensive, and good for calves, hips and the upper back.
  • Compression sleeves. Many players like them for knees, calves or elbows during and after play.
  • A quality water bottle. Thirst signals get quieter with age. A bottle they like is a bottle they finish.
  • A menthol and camphor balm. Topical analgesics are for the temporary relief of minor aches and pains of muscles and joints. A balm in the paddle bag is a small, practical gift for the elbow, knee or shoulder that complains after the third game. More on that below.

If their elbow is the usual complaint, our post on pickleball elbow and what helps the next morning is worth a read before you shop.

Where Rematch fits

Rematch is a plant-based camphor and menthol balm, handmade in small batches in Scottsdale, Arizona. Cool on contact, warm underneath. Here is how players and the people who shop for them tend to use it:

  • Stocking stuffer: Rematch Travel 1 oz, $19.95. Fits a stocking, a paddle bag side pocket and a carry-on.
  • For the player who has everything: The Rematch Set, a 2 oz jar for home and a 1 oz Travel for the bag.
  • For doubles partners: Travel Doubles, two 1 oz jars, one for each of them.
  • For a couple: The Pair, the original balm plus fragrance-free Rematch Sensitive for the partner who dislikes the smell of a rub.
  • For the league or the family: the Holiday 6-Pack comes with six gift sleeves, and the Team Pack covers a whole team.

Use as directed on the Drug Facts label. Is it OK to use a menthol balm often? We wrote a plain answer in is it safe to use menthol balm every day.

At checkout you can add a free gift note of up to 200 characters, and choose to hide prices on the packing slip. Every gift is covered by our Second Serve guarantee: if it's not for them, we refund you, and they keep it. Gifts also earn Rematch Rewards points.

Experiences beat things

Many players over 50 already own the gear. What they rarely buy themselves:

  • A lesson or clinic with a local coach, especially one focused on dinking, the third shot drop or footwork.
  • A drop-in pass or court time at an indoor facility for the winter months.
  • A tournament entry with you as their partner. Best gift on this list if you play.
  • A pickleball trip. Many resorts and clubs run weekend camps.
